MANILA Mayor Maria Sheila “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto yesterday led the distribution of financial assistance to families whose houses were razed by a huge fire Monday before dawn in Binondo, Manila.

Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) head Atty. Princess Abante said around 231 families and three individuals with no identified family received P10,000 cash assistance through the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) led by Director Asuncion “Re” Fugoso.

“Gaya po ng lagi kong sinasabi, huwag po kayong mag-alala, ang inyo pong pamahalaan ay laging naririto upang kayo ay alalayan upang kahit paano po ay maibigay ang inyong mga pangangailangan,” Mayor Lacuna-Pangan said before the start of cash distribution held at Delpan Sports Complex in Binondo. The displaced families were temporarily staying at modular tents.

A huge fire hit residential houses in Parola Compound, Binondo before dawn on March 13 and destroyed around 30 houses made up of light materials.

A three-year-old girl sustained minor burns when she was bitten by a stray dog while escaping from their burning house.
