‘Maring’ leaves 9 dead, 11 missing

SEVERE tropical storm “Maring” has left nine dead and 11 missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council yesterday said.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said they received reports that three died in a landslide in La Trinidad, Benguet, one in Itogon, Benguet, one due to drowning in Claveria, Cagayan, and four due to flashfloods in Bgy. Batang-Batang in Narra, Palawan.

“Nakatanggapo po kami ng report na siyam ang nadisgrasya dahil sa bagyo kabilang po ang tatlong bata na natabunan sa landslide sa La Trinidad, Benguet,” Timbal said.

Eleven people from Benguet, one from Ilocos Norte and four from Palawan were reportedly missing.

Maring also left at least two people injured from Buguias and Itogon, Benguet.

In Cagayan, more than 500 families or nearly 2,000 individuals fled their homes as “Maring” made landfall on Fuga Island Monday night.

Timbal said floodings were recorded in Regions 1, 2, 6, MIMAROPA and the Cordillera Autonomous Region.

“Maring” also affected a total of 478 families and 1,638 individuals in Regions 2, MIMAROPA, and CAR.

Personnel from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council were deployed for clearing and search and rescue operations, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine National Police.

“Maring” has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday.
