PHILIPPINE National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo yesterday announced the arrest of a member of the San Mateo Municipal Police Station in Rizal for robbery-extortion.

In a report to PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, the official said that Staff Sgt. June Angeles was placed under arrest during an entrapment operation right inside the San Mateo police headquarters located at SSS Road, Bgy. Gitnang Bayan in San Mateo around 4:15 p.m. last Monday.

Dongbo said the arrest was part of their intensified effort to go after rogues in police uniform in line with Gen. Eleazar’s massive Intensified Cleanliness Policy.

The official said that they will recommend the filing of administrative and criminal charges against the suspect that will trigger his dismissal from the police force.

He said the accused was placed under arrest after he received two marked P500 bills from the wife of a San Mateo police detainee in exchange for the release of his Certificate of Detention.

“I would like to issue a strong worded warning to all PNP personnel involved in illegal activities. As the Director of this unit, we will go after all erring policemen. Hindi kami magdadalawang isip to go against you,” Dongbo said.

Members of the PNP-IMEG Action Team, backed up by operatives from the PNP Special Action Force’s 35th Special Action Company and the PNP Intelligence Group, conducted the operation.

The San Mateo police leadership supported the operation, he said.

Dongbo said the accused policeman was stripped of his PNP-issued Pietro Beretta 9mm semi-automatic pistol with three magazines containing 26 live ammunition following his arrest.

The suspect is now being held at the PNP-IMEG lock-up facility in Camp Crame facing criminal for robbery-extortion and administrative charges for grave misconduct.

Dongbo said that they are also investigating reports regarding the same modus involving some PNP custodial officers and vowed to send the erring ones to jail as part of the PNP leadership’s ongoing program to rid the 222,000-strong police force of misfits and scalawags.

The official called on the public to report any PNP personnel involved in irregularities to the PNP IMEG Hotlines: SMART- 09989702286 or GLOBE- 09957952569. Information may also be forwarded to Facebook Page: Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group. Twitter Account: @imeg2017.
