A MAN who was initially accosted for playing “cara y cruz” ended up arrested for carrying nearly P300,000 worth of illegal drugs during an anti-criminality operation conducted by Pasig Police Sub-Station on Tuesday afternoon, police said yesterday.

Pasig City police chief Police Col. Celerino Sacro Jr. said the suspect, of Barangay Manggahan, was also discovered to be listed as a “high-value individual” (H.V.I.) of Pasig Police Station.

Before the suspect’s arrest, PSSgt. Ariel Reno Gabotero received information thru text message that a group of males was allegedly gambling along Karangalan Village, Bgy. Manggahan at around 3:15 pm.

Police Sub-Station 8 (Manggahan) immediately conducted an anti-criminality operation and saw the individuals, including the suspect playing the illegal coins game.

The operatives conducted a routine check on the suspects, and they discovered four plastic sachets of shabu from one of the illegal gamblers.

Based on the initial report, the seized 43 grams of shabu was valued at P292,400, P150 bet money, and three one peso coins used as “pangara.”

The confiscated suspected illegal drugs were turned over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory for examination.

“I highly commend the excellent job, dedication, and efforts of the personnel of Manggahan Police Sub-Station (SS-8), Pasig C.P.S., for another milestone in our war against illegal drugs within our area of responsibility,” Sacro said.

I also urge the general public to be vigilant and be our active partners in the campaign against all forms of lawlessness and criminality in the City,” Sacro added.

Aside from violation of PD (Presidential Decree) 1602 (Illegal Gambling), the drug suspect will be charged with the violation of RA (Republic Act) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
