Man arrested for selling fake cigarettes in Ecija
RIZAL, Nueva Ecija – Police seized some 173 reams of fake cigarettes worth over P44,000 and nabbed a man who was caught selling the counterfeit products during a buy-bust operation conducted on Friday night here.
Police head Major Sandy Bautista identified the arrested suspect as Dave Sambrano, 50, of Bgy. Poblacion Sur, this town.
Bautista said his men and members of the Provincial Intelligence Unit of NEPPO collared the suspect after successfully buying from him assorted fake cigarettes at his house at 7:05 p.m.
Seized during the operation were a total of 173 reams of assorted fake cigarettes consisting of 21 reams of Mighty Green cigarettes, 10 reams of Fortress cigarettes, 53 reams of Dunston lights, 33 reams of Marvels Green, six reams of Two Moon cigarettes, and 50 reams of Two Moon Red Cigarettes, with a total market value P44,640.
A criminal complaint for violation of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, is being prepared against the arrested suspect for inquest filing at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Cabanatuan City.
