LTO apprehends close to 2k traffic violators in May

A TOTAL of 1,737 motorists were apprehended for various traffic violations by the Land Transportation Office –National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) and deputized agents from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

According to LTO-NCR director Roque Verzosa, the figures only covered the month-long operations of May 2023.

Citing data submitted to his office, Verzosa said that violations range from failure to wear the prescribed seat belt device as well as its front passenger for vehicles and failure to wear a protective helmet and require the back rider to do the same for motorcycles along with violation of the Children’s Safety Act.

Reports from the Regional Enforcement Unit and District Law Enforcement Teams said that a total of 420 motorists were also issued citation tickets for other offenses.

A total of 193 of them were apprehended for motor vehicle operating with defective accessories, devices, equipment and parts; 44 for disregarding traffic signs; 39 for failure to carry OR/CR while driving; 29 were unregistered; 28 for reckless driving; 18 for unauthorized MV modification.

Another 12 others were cited for no CPC (certificate of public convenience); 12 for failure to provide canvas cover to cargos or freight of trucks; 8 for wearing slippers; 5 for obstruction; 4 for allowing passengers on top or cover of a motor vehicle.

Others were for failure to attach motor vehicle license plates; three for driving without license; three for excess passenger; three for breach of franchise; two for improper attachment of license plates; two unregistered top load and, two for hitching or permitting a person to hitch to motor vehicles.

Verzosa also reported that 253 motorists were made to undergo education on the significance of adhering to traffic regulations by Asst. Regional Director and Operations chief Hanzley Lim.
