PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has vowed to create more quality jobs in the Philippines to meet the employment needs of the burgeoning population.

Meeting with members of the Filipino community in Chuo City, Marcos thanked our migrant workers in Japan for promoting the country through their kindness and diligence.

Although the dollar-oriented manpower industry is a major pillar of the local economy, Marcos said he prefers that Filipinos just stay at home rather than work abroad.

The visiting Chief Executive assured that the government is boosting the quality of local jobs so that “time will come when Filipinos would no longer have to go abroad out of necessity.”

“Ang aking pangarap talaga ay masabi na…sapat ang trabaho sa Pilipinas. Pagka isang Pilipino ay nag-abroad para magtrabaho ito ay dahil pinili niya ito at hindi napilitan,” he said.

It is his dream, he said, that our countrymen will have good jobs at home that will secure their future.

Admittedly, more and more Filipinos seek employment in the United States, Canada, England, Australia and other countries of the low of workers in the Philippines.

In fact, even professionals, mostly engineers, office workers, nurses, medical doctors and other health workers, prefer to seek employment in foreign lands.

“Kasi nga ay hindi sapat ang kinikita nila sa Pilipinas para mapag-aral sa kolehiyo ang kanilang mga anak,” a mother of an information technology (IT) expert said.

Let’s stop sending our workers, particularly female household helpers, to foreign lands.

It’s long overdue!
