Laguna cops score in anti-crime drive

FOUR men were hauled to jail by agents of the Laguna Police Provincial Office for involvement in organized crime activities in the province, reports sent to Camp Crame on Sunday said.

Laguna PPO director, Colonel Randy Glenn G. Silvio said two of the suspects identified as Roger Eculla and Jeffrey Agsalud were arrested in a hot pursuit operation in Bay municipality conducted by the local police amid a motorcycle theft incident.

In a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Jose Melencio C. Nartates Jr. , the official said that Eculla was the first to be arrested in Barangay Bitin by members of the Bay Municipal Police Station.

The arrest was made after complainant Bryan Ortiz reported that his motorcycle without plate number was stolen while parked unattended near their house.

Local police found out that Agsalud drove the motorbike towards Calamba City leaving behind Eculla who failed to flee with his Rusi motorcycle with plate no. 267DBH.

When arrested, the suspect yielded an improvised firearm with three live 12-gauge ammunition.

Silvio said that a follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of Agsalud in Sitio Pulong Candy in Bgy. Sampiruhan, Calamba City.

He said that with the help of the local police, his men recovered the stolen motorcycle inside the Rafal Metal Scrap in Bgy. Halang just hours after the motorbike was stolen in Bay munipality.

The recovered stolen motorcycle was placed under the safekeeping of the Bay MPS.

Silvio said the two other suspects identified as John Reny Jose, a 22-year old resident of 3 Saint John, Parola Street in Cainta, Rizal and Marvin Marasigan,27, of Sumulong Extension in Bagumbayan, Angono, Rizal were arrested in an anti-gun check inside the Walk in Love Bar located in Bgy. II-F in San Pablo City past 4 a.m. last Tuesday.

He said that prior to the arrest of the two, the San Pablo City Police Station received a report that there were two men carrying firearms inside the bar.

Members of the San Pablo City SWAT team immediately rushed to the establishment and spotted the two suspects.

When accosted, Jose was found with a caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing three live ammunition tucked in his waistline. He also yielded a backpack found to contain a grenade, a small heat-sealed plastic sachet with suspected shabu, 27 assorted mobile phones and three tablet computers.

The second suspect was found in possession of a cal. .38 revolver with two bullets.

The two suspect’s Yamaha Sniper motorcycle with a ‘For Registration’ plate attached to it was impounded by local police.

Silvio said the two failed to present gun papers.

He added the duo were found to be involved in a series of robbery-holdup incidents in Lucena City and the Quezon municipalities of Tayabas, Candelaria and Tiaong.

During questioning, the two confessed to their involvement in robbery-holdup activities in Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon provinces and in the southern part of Metro Manila.

Both suspects are facing non-bailable charges for illegal possession of explosive, firearms and drugs, the official said.

Silvio said that the arrests were made in line with the conduct of more aggressive anti-criminality operations and stepped-up police visibility in Laguna and other parts of Calabarzon region ordered by Brig. Gen. Nartatez.
