KAYA FC-Iloilo and the Azkals Developmental Team overcame tough semifinals foes to forge a showdown for the Copa Paulino Alcantara Tuesday night at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Jovin Bedic converted a late penalty, ensuring Kaya of a 1-0 triumph over Dynamic Herb Cebu in a physical encounter, moving on the cusp of regaining the Cup.

Yrick Gallantes’ header late in extra time gave the young Azkals a thrilling 2-1 win over Stallion-Laguna to gain qualification in the final set tomorrow.

Baris Tasci was called for a handball inside the box in the 86th minute, allowing the 2018 winners to give a spot kick which Bedic calmly drilled in.

It was a heartbreaking loss for Cebu, which battled toe-to-toe against fancied Kaya only to be condemned by Tasci’s violation.

“Napakahirap i-beat yung depensa nila. Hindi namin inakala na super defensive sila ngayon. Pero nakuha namin yung goal na makapasok sa finals,” said Bedic.

Gallantes produced the winner in the 116th minute off a cross by Oliver Bias as ADT completed its fightback from a goal down over Stallion.

Goalkeeper Quincy Kameraad was also another key figure for the young Azkals with his big saves during the added time that kept the match level prior to Gallantes’ goal.

“I’m very happy with the performance because even at a young age, you can see their discipline throughout the game,” said ADT coach Jovanie Villagracia.

“They kept fighting despite being down 1-0 so it’s a big learning experience for the team,” he added.

Stallion was relegated to tomorrow’s third-place match against Cebu after it was unable to sustain a 1-0 lead courtesy of Abe Placito’s header from a corner kick in the 53rd minute.

Jarvey Gayoso nailed the equalizer in the 66th minute with a similar shot off a Dennis Chung’s cross for his tournament-leading sixth goal.

The ADT captain, however, was subbed late in the second half after a hamstring injury.
