MANILA Mayor and presidential aspirant Isko Moreno expressed great pride that many residents have been reaching out to help the victims of typhoon “Odette” as he announced that there are even those who returned the Christmas packages given by the city government so they can be delivered to the badly-hit provinces instead.

During yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony in Manila City Hall, Moreno also said that the P2.5 million allocated by the city had been sent to the local government units concerned, as he thanked and praised Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna who, as Presiding Officer of the Manila City Council, readily responded to the mayor’s request for a special session so that the allocation can be done swiftly.

“Maraming, maraming salamat kay Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna. Sa pamumuno niya sa konseho ng Maynila, lahat ng ayuda, serbisyo at programa na pupuwedeng ipagkaloob sa ating mga kababayan sa lungsod ay laging napagtatagumpayan dahil sa liderato ni Vice Mayor Honey sa konseho ng Maynila,”Moreno said.

The mayor said that hopefully within the day yesterday, more help will be sent by Manila to the affected provinces as he was also able to raise P2 million personal funds while businessmen from Urdaneta, Pangasinan also gave P250,000 with other cash donations still coming in.

Moreno said he is still appealing for the generosity of those who have to spare, to help those who have been displaced by the typhoon, saying he himself witnessed the devastation brought by “Odette” to our fellow citizens.

“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa mga volunteers, sa mga Isko for President volunteers, na nagkanya-kanyang kilos on their own, they repacked and sent goods to different areas in Visayas, to Bohol, Leyte and Surigao . Ako ay nananawagan pa rin kung kayo ay may kakayanang tumulong, tumulong tayo. Maraming salamat mga Batang Maynila, I’m really proud of you,” the mayor said.
