CAMP LAPULAPU, Cebu City – With less than a month remaining in the current year, the implementation of the Barangay Development Program (BDP) in the Visayas region is on track and continues to accelerate.

Visayas Command (VISCOM) disclosed on Sunday that of the 335 BDP-funded projects in the Visayas that were programmed in the latter part of 2021 and were implemented in the current year,
72 of have already been completed while the remaining 263 are currently being implemented.

Of the 72 BDP projects that were completed, 25 are infrastructure projects while 47 are non-infrastructure projects. These projects include school buildings; potable water systems; farm-to-market roads; health care facilities, road lighting systems, and livelihood projects.

A total of 77 barangays benefitted from the said projects:41 from Iloilo, 24 from Negros Occidental, six from Northern Samar, four from Capiz, and two from Antique.

Major General Benedict M Arevalo, PA, the Acting Commander of VISCOM said ‘the joint efforts between our soldiers, the LGUs, and our partner stakeholders in attaining these worthwhile projects continue to gain ground, as manifested on the diminishing support from the community to the CPP – NPA terrorists.’

“The implementation of these projects to these former conflict-affected communities plays a significant role in our efforts in attaining just and lasting peace in the region. These projects provide a semblance of governance to these communities which help negate the agitation and propaganda of the CPP – NPA terrorists,” he added.

The Barangay Development Program is the hallmark program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to bring development to former conflict-ridden communities through the implementation of various socioeconomic development projects.
