TWO days after being elected as Senior Deputy Speaker, Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is taking a seven-day leave or until August 11.

In a statement, the former President asked Speaker Martin Romualdez to approve her short “wellness” vacation to France and Singapore.

Arroyo failed to attend the opening of session of the 19th Congress and first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. because she was tested positive for COVID-19.

“Former President Arroyo has requested Speaker Romualdez to permit her to take a medical and wellness leave for seven session days,” the statement said.

Two days before the SONA, Arroyo was tested positive.

However, the statement issued by her office states that “she has been certified by her personal physician as no longer infectious.”

Arroyo assured Romualdez that she will fulfill her duty and attend the session via Zoom while outside the country.
