Girl, 5, 2 brods killed in fire
A FIRE broke out inside a nipa hut killing a young girl and her two younger siblings Friday afternoon at Brgy. Ilayang Tayuman in San Francisco, Quezon, this coastal town, Friday afternoon.
Town police commander P/Lt. Joe Alvarez identified the victims as Shakera Villa Blagon, 5, and her younger brothers Limbert, 3, and Leonel, 1.
Alvarez said the tragedy occurred at 5 p.m while the victims and their two other siblings were alone inside the nipa hut.
One of the two survivors told probers that Shakera allegedly took a lighter from the altar and lighted it hitting Buri palm leaves serving as wall which triggered the fire, Alvarez said in a phone interview.
“At dahil mga wooden at light materials lang yong bahay kaya madaling kumalat ang apoy”, said Alvarez.
Luckily, he said the trio’s two siblings managed to get out from the burning house leaving the trapped victims who immediately suffocated due to thick smoke from the blaze.
It was learned that prior to the incident, the children were left by their parents who went to the nearby farm land to harvest coconut fruits.
