From extra to lead star
APPLE Dy is the newest Vivamax sex siren introduced in “Punit na Langit”, her first movie after being discovered in “Pantaxa Laiya”, the Viva reality show that searched for new bombshells. Is Apple Dy her real name?
“No, screen name lang po siya given to me by Viva,” she says at the “Punit na Langit” screening/presscon. “My real name po is Joan Apolinar,” she says. “Nag-try rin po akong mag-showbiz noon, pero hanggang extra lang. Tapos I focused na po on my studies.”
After finishing college, she went into modeling. “Graduate po ako ng business information management sa Asian Institute of Computer Science in Marikina. Then may nagdala po sa akin para mag-audition sa Viva at nakuha nga ako for ‘Pantaxa Laiya’ where we stayed in Batangas for two weeks to tape the whole show. I won the Miss Congeniality award as Tropa ng Pantaxa.”
So what is her role in “Punit na Langit”? “I play Dyosa, laki sa probinsya. Napipi po ako rito, dahil sa isang aksidente, pero nakakarinig naman ako. Ulila na ako at kasama ko sa bahay si Tiffany Grey as Claudia, na pinalaki ng parents ko. Magaling po akong mananahi pero ang pangarap namin ni Tiffany, makarating sa Maynila for a better life, kaso na-involved po kami sa leading men namin, sina Aerol Carmelo and Chester Grecia who work sa isang perya.”
How did she prepare for her role as a mute girl? “Nag-research po ako sa mga totoong pipi and their relatives. Then nag-workshop po ako with our director, Rodante Pajemna. Kabado po ako kasi baguhan lang ako, tapos, mahirap agad ang role. Tinanong ko sila sa shoot kung okay naman ang acting ko and they say convincing naman daw, pati sa dramatic scenes.”
How is it working with her co-stars? “Si Tiffany, napakabait po. She really treated me like a sister and gives me advice. Si Aerol naman, may love scene kami, gentleman po siya. Inalalayan niya ko kasi first time ko. Bale second movie namin ito kasi magkasama rin kami sa ‘Patikim-tikim’ ni Direk Joey Reyes, which we have also finished shooting.”
Their director is also a big help. “Assistant po siya noon sa ‘Pantaxa Laiya’ kaya kilala ko na siya at palagay na ang loob ko sa kanya. Sobrang love ko siya kasi first directorial job niya rin ito sa Viva and we both gave it our best. I’m happy siya ang naging director ko for my first movie.”
Looks like that the Viva bosses are confident she’d hit it big as one of their resident sexpots so, even if her two movies have yet to be shown, they’re already giving her a launching movie.
“Yes, magsu-shoot na po kami this week,” she happily reports. “The title is ‘Tuhog’ at sa story, mag-ama sina Joko Diaz at Arron Villaflor at tutuhugin ko sila rito. Nag-meet na kami and I was so nervous noong una kasi matagal na sila sa industry, but they were so helpful to a newcomer like me. Sa direction naman po ito ni Direk GB Sampedro.”
