THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) should file a usurpation of authority case against a lady driver who claimed she was a ‘major’ from the AFP intelligence service and not just deny the name dropper is a member of the military, a source said.

“The AFP must file a case for usurpation of authority against that woman since she identified herself as a ‘Major Miguel’ of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” a security official told the Journal Group.

The Special Action and Intelligence Committee of the Department of Transportation said that the woman, identified as Cherry Miguel, of Eton, Greenbelt, Makati City, introduced herself as “Major Miguel” from ISAFP.

The impostor added she was involved in the annual Philippines-United States ‘Balikatan’ exercises when accused of illegally using the exclusive bus lane in Makati City.

When officers demanded for her license, the woman refused to hand it over to an enforcer and instead demanded that she be issued a traffic violation ticket.

A video of the incident showed the woman bravely introducing herself as a ‘niece of Major General Mario Reyes.’

The real Major Gen. Mario Reyes, the current PNP Director for Logistics, denied he knew the woman nor that she is related to him.

He also said that he won’t let anybody use his name if they find trouble with the law.

The video showed the woman ‘verbally abusing’ members of the SAICT, Philippine Coast Guard and the PNP Highway Patrol Group who accosted her before speeding away prompting the Land Transportation Office to issue her a ‘show-cause order’ to force her to come to the LTO and explain her side.

On Saturday, AFP spokesperson, Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla, said the erring lady driver merely posed as a military officer to prevent being cited for entering the EDSA busway.

“She’s not a member of the AFP. As per initial checking, we do not have that personality within the office that she was mentioning in the video that was posted,” she said.

Col. Padilla also said they don’t have a ‘Major General Reyes’ in the AFP and it is the PNP that has that official.

The woman was driving a black Toyota Fortuner when she was accosted at around 6:35 p.m. last Thursday at the south-bound lane of Guadalupe Carousel Station.

Prior to that, officers were alerted about the presence of a driver speeding in the exclusive bus lane while heading towards Guadalupe from Ortigas, Pasig.

“I strongly condemn the act of name dropping me in a recent incident regarding a traffic violation of the EDSA bus lane policy.

I want to make it clear that this person who introduced herself as Major Miguel of the AFP is not a relative by blood nor by affinity. I never met her in any capacity,” said PNP Director for Logistics, Major General Mario A. Reyes.
