PHILIPPINE National Police chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar approved the suspension of the implementation of the Body Mass Index or BMI in their promotion system.

“I have already approved the recommendation to suspend the implementation of the PNP Memorandum Circular 2020-029 which requires compliance with the Body Mass Index, or BMI, in our promotion system,” the top cop said in a press statement.

“In approving this, we took into consideration the balance between the workload of all our personnel in this time of pandemic and the need for them to comply with this Memorandum Circular just to be promoted,” he said.

The BMI as a requirement for a policeman seeking promotion in rank was implemented during the time of former PNP chief, now retired Gen. Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, as part of the PNP’s nationwide fitness program aimed at coming up with physically and mentally fit police officers.
