A SEPTUAGENARIAN couple was killed after a fire of still undetermined origin hit their house Friday evening in Las Piñas City.

Las Piñas Fire Investigator F/Insp. Maria Luisa Andrade said Rolando Tabliza and his wife Autencia, both 78 years old, were trapped after flames engulfed their house at Lovely St., BF Almanza Dos, at around 10:00 p.m.

Victims’ neighbor Eva Pineda said they heard a loud explosion before they noticed thick smoke billowing from the neighbor’s living room, prompting them to call the city fire department.

Las Piñas Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire did not spread to adjacent houses as it was immediately put under control by responding firefighters at around 11:45 p.m. before it was finally put out at 11:00 p.m.

F/Insp. Andrade said the cause of the fire and the property damage has yet to be determined, including a Ford Ranger pick-up that was hit by the fire while parked inside the victim’s garage.
