Ecija first class town aims for cityhood

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – This first class-municipality will gun for its “cityhood dream” next year.

Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez said they will definitely push for their long-cherished dream to attain cityhood next year after being able to comply with all the needed requirements such as income, land area and population for the proposed conversion.

This town will aim to become Nueva Ecija’s sixth component city after the five cities of Cabanatuan, Palayan, San Jose, Muňoz and Gapan.

Martinez, who is on her third and final term as mayor, made the announcement during the pay-out of COVID-19 cash assistance for the initial batch of 1,000 of the total 6,000 tricycle driver-association members operating in 53 barangays of this town.

She said the cash payout, which was sponsored by Gov. Aurelio M. Umali, was conducted in Bgy. Bakal Uno on Thursday here.

She said that with the town achieving component city status, these tricycle drivers-groups will be among those who will surely benefit from the cityhood upgrade.

Martinez, who arrived here with her brother, Liga ng Barangay president JR Santos and their “Team Kaunlaran” also told the tricycle drivers-groups that the municipal government will put up at least four mini-gasoline stations and a spare parts supply store for their members’ benefit.

It was learned that these portable mini-gas stations will have 2,000-liter tanks in each area and will be put up in barangays Matias District, Tabacao, Sibul and Bacal here.
