POLICE arrested a “bogus” employee of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who allegedly “swindled” applicants of the “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) by asking for payment as a processing fee in an entrapment operation Wednesday morning in Caloocan City.

Caloocan Police Chief P/Col. Ferdinand Del Rosario said the female suspect was arrested by operatives of the Station Intelligence Unit led by P/Maj. John David Chua in front of her house in Bgy. 12 at around 9:30 a.m. after receiving the marked money from an undercover cop who posed as an applicant of 4PS.

The operation, according to Col. Del Rosario, stemmed from the complaint filed by two Product Development Officers of 4Ps of Navotas City after they learned that applicants for 4Ps were being asked by the suspect, who introduced herself as an “employee” of DSWD, to pay the amount of P3,050 as payment for the processing of documents and other expenses for them to be “qualified as beneficiary”.

After verifying the authenticity of the complaint, an entrapment operation was planned and successfully conducted by elements of the Intelligence Unit resulting in the arrest of the suspect.

Police recovered from the suspect the marked money worth P3,050 and bio-data of the undercover cop who posed as an applicant.

Del Rosario said the suspect will be charged for “Syndicated Estafa through Swindling and Usurpation of Authority” before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
