Drunk student driver runs over Cavite checkpoint; cop killed, another critical
SILANG, Cavite–A police officer was killed while his colleague is in critical condition after a pick up truck driven by a drunk college student ran over a checkpoint last Sunday along Aguinaldo Highway in Brgy. Tubuan here.
The fatality was identified as Patrolman John Karl Delyola, 27, member of the 401st Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion-4A and resident of Calamba City, Laguna, while the injured is Patrolman Adrianne Atienza, 29, of Balagtasin, San Jose, Batangas.
According to the police investigation, the victims were manning a checkpoint at about 2:40 a.m. along Premier Mall in the area when an Isuzu DMax pickup (TOF 638) driven by Jemuelle Arvee Bernardo Belen, 22, ran over the checkpoint and hit the two victims.
The two victims fell to the pavement and both suffered fractures in the head and body. They were immediately rushed to the Silang Specialist Medical Center where one of the victims died.
The suspect was immediately arrested and tested positive for alcohol.
