THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) is completing transport projects that boost the country’s economy, while at the same time protecting the environment, Secretary Jaime Bautista said Wednesday.

In receiving the International Recognition and Global Gratitude Award for the DOTr during the launch of the Good Stories Movement, Secretary Bautista said that transport projects on the pipeline are environment-friendly.

“At the Department, we have projects that see to it that we protect the environment,” said Bautista.

In building railways, expressways, airports, and road projects, Sec. Bautista said the department is supporting efforts to save the environment.

Sec. Bautista cited the EDSA Busway and Active Transport Program, including the construction of over 500 kilometers of bike lanes, and recently more than nine kilometers of bike lanes in Intramuros, Manila.

“We want tourists to support cycling tourism,” he added.

The transport chief also said that the DOTr is investing in rail projects as trains are eco-friendly by emitting lower carbon emissions.
