DMV kicks off PH Freedom Day festivities
Through fashion exhibits, networking event
IN line with the ongoing celebrations of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence in Washington D.C., the Philippine Embassy extended its support to the Philippine Independence Day Committee (PIDC) of the greater DMV area as it kicked off festivities through a fashion exhibit and networking event at the Chancery Annex of the Embassy on June 2, 2023.
In his remarks, the Deputy Chief of Mission hoped that “the PIDC DMV Independence Day subtheme, ‘Bagong Pilipinas, Diwa ng Pagkakaisa: Living the Bayanihan Spirit,’ inspire us to strive towards a more united Filipino nation. Let us remind ourselves that our country’s progress does not only come from economic growth or technological advancements. It lies within us Filipinos, the strength of our unity, and the spirit of Bayanihan ingrained in all of us.”
Guests were able to browse numerous designs by accomplished international fashion designers Kirsten Regalado and Sheryl Cruz and Filipino memorabilia/fashion pieces from the personal collections of Valera Law, Helping Hand 1835, and Maggie & Friends.
The event was also an exclusive opportunity to see the Filipiniana gowns worn by First Lady Marie Louise Araneta Marcos and Former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos during the presidential inauguration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
During the networking event, members of the PIDC were also given the opportunity to share their organizations’ histories and events with the guests and how their contributions have been making a difference in their respective communities.
The Embassy will also be open to PIDC guests as they hold a series of history lectures titled “Story of the Philippines” on June 9. The PIDC DMV has also organized a street festival and concert on June 10 at the Crescendo Studios in Falls Church, VA.
Those who wish to see Regalado’s fashion collection can also inquire with Helping Hands on how to attend Regalado’s fashion show and a special screening of “Take Me to Banaue” on June 10.
