Converge wins shootout vs Phoenix

QUINCY Miller exploded with a career-high 46 points as Converge FiberXers outsteadied Phoenix Super LPG, 132-127, for its league-best sixth straight win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Miller made 8-of-13 triples in another superb offensive game to help the FiberXers beat the Fuel Masters in the highly-anticipated battle between the league’s hottest teams and improve to second-best 7-2 win-loss record behind only Magnolia (6-1).

Miller also had 18 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals in a high-scoring contest that saw the FiberXers make 22 three-pointers.

That was one triple short of the PBA record.

Jeron Teng finished with 25 points and eight rebounds and RK Ilagan came off the bench to add 22 points for Converge.

Maverick Ahanmisi also had 13 points for coach Aldin Ayo.

Miller, Ahanmisi and Teng keyed Converge’s 8-0 run for a 127-116 lead with still 3:43 remaining.

Kaleb Wesson led the way with 25 points, 21 rebounds and seven assists for Phoenix, which saw its five-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 5-4 win-loss overall.

Javee Mocon added 17 points, four rebounds and four assists for Phoenix, followed by Encho Serrano with 17 points and six rebounds and Sean Anthony with 17 points and three assists.

Converge will gun for a record seventh straight win when it meets unpredictable Rain or Shine at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Nov. 13.

Phoenix, on the other hand, hopes to recover lost ground but will have to do it against Magnolia at the Yanres Center on Nov. 12.
