DESPITE the worsening of climate change, the world is not yet on the edge of the “hopeless stretch.”

However, the private sector and concerned government authorities throughout the world, including the Philippines, must exert concerted efforts to arrest global warming.

In the view of more and more world experts, the people ought to break society’s continued addiction to fossil fuels, which is being perpetrated by governments and industry.

And admittedly, the continued worsening of global warming has untold consequences for many of the world’s vital industries, such as fisheries, tourism and agriculture.

That’s why the Climate Change Commission (CCC) should be commended for calling on the people to take part in the national government’s campaign to address the problem.

And note that President Marcos is determined to achieve a climate change-resilient Philippines.

In a recent media forum, CCC Vice Chairman and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje emphasized that claimate change must be addressed globally.

However, the highly-articulate CCC official was quick to point out that the issue also requires solutions at the community and individual or personal level.

“Let us renounce the culture of waste and irresponsibility, pagiging waldas, walang pakialam sa ating waste at responsibility,” according to the CCC executive director.

The media forum coincided with the media launch of the 16th Annual Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week at Cabel Restaurant in Manila.
