CHINESE Ambassador to Manila Huang Xilian yesterday said the Government of China is ready to extend humanitarian assistance to Filipinos affected by the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Luzon, with the epicenter in Abra on Wednesday morning.

Huang, on his official Facebook account, posted, “On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the Philippine government and the Filipino people affected by this morning’s earthquake in Luzon.”

“We are ready to extend a helping hand to the Philippine side for disaster relief. I believe under the leadership of President Marcos Jr., the Filipino people will be able to overcome difficulties and resume normal life as soon as possible,” he added.

The Embassy of China would wait for further information from relevant offices and assess the damages for possible disaster relief, the Chinese envoy said.

“We need to assess what kind of damages or any casualties, but we hope there will be no casualties, no damage, but in case there is we will do our best to help,” he said.

The tectonic quake struck 3 km. northwest of the municipality of Tayum in Abra at 8:43 a.m., with a depth of 17 km.

The quake was also felt in Matro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

The Abra Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council officials said many people were injured by falling debris but failed to give the exact number of people hurt.
