THE Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Friday morning buried 60 unclaimed bodies of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Cemetery in Muntinlupa City.

The corpses were part of the 176 unclaimed bodies of inmates discovered in NBP-accredited Eastern Funeral Services.

A mass was held at the NBP Cemetery prior to the burial.

Their discovery stemmed from the mystery-shrouded death of middleman Jun Villamor, who supposedly relayed to self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial the order to assassinate broadcaster Percy Lapid.

For her part, BuCor chief of the NBP hospital and acting director of the Directorate for Health and Welfare Services CTSSupt. Ma. Cecilia V. Villanueva said those buried were among the 176 unclaimed cadavers that have been kept at the Eastern Funeral Services in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

“Presently po, out of the 176, bale 70 na po ang nailibing namin, 106 na lang po ang nandoon sa Eastern, “Villanueva said.

Sa susunod na linggo po ay maglilibing pa po kami, ” she said during a press conference.
