THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has raised its Z Benefit package for breast cancer, one of the country’s dreaded diseases.

It is an ailment in which abnormal cells grow out of control and form tumors. If left unchecked, the tumors can spread throughout the body and become fatal.

Admittedly, the increase is ample proof that the government of President Marcos, through PhilHealth, is committed to delivering its mandate.

PhilHealth, which is attached to the Department of Health (DOH) for policy coordination and guidance, is mandated to deliver responsive benefits to PhilHealth members.

Effective March 30, 2024, the benefit package for the deadly disease was raised from only P100,000 to P1.4 million, according to PhilHealth.

The enhanced benefit package now covers Stages 0 to 4 of breast cancer and even expanded the eligibility qualifications of members, who can avail themselves of the benefit.

PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel R. Ledesma Jr. said the enhanced benefit package provides a holistic approach to breast cancer treatment.

To avail themselves of the enhanced breast cancer benefit, members or their qualified dependents are advised to get in touch with the current 21 contracted health facilities.

Doubtless, the increase will go a long way in helping those with breast cancer, which continues to worry the authorities and the people.
