SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go renewed his call for the government to continue intensifying its economic recovery efforts to help more Filipinos, particularly those in low-income communities nationwide.

In a video message during a relief operation organized by his team on Friday, September 16, in Barobo, Surigao del Sur, the senator also reassured that he is determined to continue providing necessary support to the vulnerable sectors amid the ongoing pandemic.

Go’s team mounted the relief activity at Barangay Poblacion Gymnasium where they handed out vitamins, shirts, masks and snacks to 300 struggling residents. They also gave away shoes, cellular phones, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended aid through its Sustainable Livelihood Program to help the residents open their own small business that may sustain their daily needs.

Go also offered to help those with health issues and advised them to visit Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in Tandag City or Lianga District Hospital in Lianga town where there are Malasakit Centers ready to assist them.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which brings together under one roof relevant agencies, namely, DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, to ensure that particularly poor and indigent patients have more convenient access to medical assistance programs. There are already 152 centers established nationwide.

Kaya kung kayo po ay may nararamdaman, huwag po kayo mahiyang lumapit sa Malasakit Center,” encouraged Go, who is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.

Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, likewise supported the construction of a flood control and drainage system in Brgy. Rosario, construction of a road from Brgys. Maticdum to Maitom, and concreting of the Brgys. San Isidro to Maticdum farm-to-market road in Tandag City.

Other initiatives he supported in the province include the rehabilitation of roads in Barobo, Cagwait, Carmen, Madrid, Marihatag, San Agustin, San Miguel, Tago and Bislig City; construction and rehabilitation of multipurpose buildings in Barobo, Bayabas, Carmen, Cortes, Hinatuan and Tagbina; and construction of evacuation centers in Carmen and Bislig City.

In the end, Go thanked the local officials and frontliners for their dedicated service, saying, “Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng ating mga local officials at sa ating mga frontliners.
