BUREAU of Immigration (BI) announced on Friday that they will be deploying 147 newly hired Immigration Officers (IOs) for on-site training at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) starting April 24, Monday.

According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the new officers will augment the agency’s workforce at the premiere port at the height of the travel season this summer.

“This action will help improve our service to the traveling public during this time, as well as ensure that immigration protocols are carried out properly against trafficking threats,” Tansingco said.

Upon completion of their training, said officers will be distributed to different airports and offices of the BI nationwide.

“This is part of our continuing goal of improving our manpower by maximizing our plantilla,” said Tansingco.

Apart from the initial training, immigration officers are set to undergo continuing trainings to improve both hard skills and soft skills.

“We want a more holistic approach in our trainings for our officers,” said Tansingco. “Apart from theoretical trainings, we want to increase our trainings in other skills, like communication and conflict resolution, which are very important in the conduct of their duties.” By JUN I.
