BI nabs American ‘fugitive’ in Morong

CAMP BGEN VICENTE P LIM – A former Philippine citizen, now a fugitive from the United States of America (USA) charged with selling drugs, was arrested Thursday in Morong Rizal.

The suspect with the alias “Sawa” was arrested by agents of the Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) with the assistance of operatives from PRO4A Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Unit 4A, Rizal Provincial Intelligence Unit, Morong Municipal Police Station, Batangas 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, and 11th Airforce.

The American fugitive was arrested by virtue of a mission order issued by BI in relation to the bench warrant issued by the New Jersey Court on February 2, 2018, against the suspect.

The suspect was charged in New Jersey on November 2014 and April 2016 with multiple counts of distribution of drugs within the school zone in the said state.

He was believed to have exited the country before the conclusion of his trial, which was to be heard on February 2018, according to the Transportation Security Administration and Homeland Security Pre Check of the United States.

He has no records of valid travel documents, and his passport expired on January 23, 2020.

Operating units conducted continuous casing and a series of surveillance within the suspect’s residence.

The suspect was also convicted for violating RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) on May 2, 2022, but was released via a plea bargaining agreement.
