FORMER Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will woo Metro Manila voters this Wednesday by holding a grand caravan.

The motorcade will kick off with a meet-and-greet event at the eastbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, in front of the Commission on Audit (CoA) head office at 7:30 a.m.

It will then advance through Commonwealth Avenue all the way to Quezon Avenue.

The Quezon City phase of the caravan, which will culminate at the Welcome Rotunda, will be spearheaded by mayoralty candidate Mike Defensor and his running mate, Councilor Winnie Castelo.

Marcos Jr., who is running for president, and Duterte-Carpio who is gunning for the vice presidency, are “hugely popular” in Quezon City, according to Defensor and Castelo.

“We would urge our supporters in Quezon City who are joining the caravan to strictly observe health protocols such as physical distancing and the wearing of face masks, and to avoid unnecessarily obstructing motor vehicle traffic flow,” Defensor and Castelo said.

Defensor said he and Castelo had originally planned to hold a large gathering for Marcos and Duterte-Carpio at the Quezon City Memorial Circle (QCMC).

“But we called off the QCMC event in favor of joining the caravan after the city government made it very problematic for us to obtain a simple permit,” said Defensor, incumbent Anakalusugan party-list congressional representative.

“The city government acted as if they own QCMC, which is a public park owned by and for the people. In fact, Mayor Joy Belmonte recently had a political event at QCMC with Vice President Leni Robredo, which belies the local government’s claim that such gatherings are forbidden there,” Defensor added.

Joining Defensor and Castelo in Wednesday’s motorcade are their six Quezon City congressional candidates: reelectionist Representatives Anthony Peter “Onyx” Crisologo (first district), Precious Hipolito-Castelo (second district), and Allan Reyes (third district), as well as Councilor Marvin Rillo (fourth district), businesswoman Rose Lin (fifth district), and former Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo (sixth district).
