Alleged gunman in 2017 killing of barrio doctor falls

POLICE arrested the alleged gunman in the 2017 murder of a doctor who served poor in the isolated communities in Lanao del Norte.

Suspect Mohammad Nabel Langi Banding, 39, was arrested based on a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Alberto Quinto of the Kapatagan Regional Trial Court.

Banding allegedly shot Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte in March 2017.

Perlas was a member of the government’s “Doctors to the Barrios” program, which was created to bring quality health care to depressed, marginalized and underserved areas through the deployment of competent and community-oriented doctors.

The victim was driving a motorcycle on way home in Lala when upon reaching Bgy. Maranding Annex in Kapatagan, two men riding a motorcycle shot him.

Joint operatives of the Lanao Del Norte Provincial Office and the Police Regional Office 10 arrested Banding in Bgy. Abaga, Lala Lanao del Norte.

The motive for the killing is still under investigation.
