POLICE Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) Director Brigadier General Roderick Augustus B. Alba has ordered the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (PPO) to launch all efforts to solve two deadly gun attacks in the province in a span of 24 hours this week and further step-up their visibility patrols to arrest similar violent incidents in the future.

The official directed Negros Oriental PPO director, Colonel Reynaldo L. Lizardo, to supervise the ongoing investigation into the twin incidents involving “riding-in-tandem criminals” and launch hot pursuit operations to get them.

“I want the conduct of regular and frequent checkpoints in the province and this should not be done only after a crime has happened,” Alba said even as he asked the PRO7 Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) headed by Col. Ronan R. Claravall to coordinate with their Armed Forces’ counterparts all their anti-criminality operations in the province and the rest of the region.

Around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, a 55-year-old teacher residing in Sitio Lawton, Barangay 7 in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, was shot and seriously wounded by a motorcycle-riding man along Sitio Tuwang in Bgy. Poblacion, Pamploba municipality.

An initial police investigation showed that the victim was driving his Volkswagen when he was shot without provocation. The victim suffered a gunshot wound on the left part of his shoulder and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect, who was wearing a jacket and his face covered with a hood, escaped on board a motorcycle being driven by a cohort and is still being hunted by the local police headed by Maj. Saturnino Sedigo Jr.

Investigators are still reviewing all available CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera footage in the area to find clues that will lead to the identification of the suspects.

Around 2:30 p.m. last Tuesday, two men wearing helmets on board a motorcycle attacked a 38-year-old man in Sitio Bunsod, Bgy. Obat in Sta. Catalina municipality, killing the victim on the spot.

Investigators said that the victim, a resident of Sitio Breakwater in Poblacion, Sta. Catalina was driving his scooter in the area when the suspects tailed him before the back rider fired at him several times without any reason.

The victim suffered several bullet wounds in the head and died on the spot.
