Alarming

THERE’S now a snowballing move in Congress to look deeper into the reported deaths linked to the unauthorized use of intravenous glutathioane.

Described as a powerful antioxidant in the body, glutathione reportedly slows down the progression of cancer, a major cause of death in the country.

Admittedly, however, there also side effects and risks in the use of glutathione, including abdominal cramps, bloating, trouble breathing, and allergic reactions.

In the Upper Chamber of Congress, Senator Nancy Binay has filed Senate Resolution (SR) No, 952, which seeks an investigation into the reported deaths.

In filing the resolution, the lady senator from Makati City cited the need for “stringent regulatory oversight to prevent such tragic outcomes.”

As a well-meaning Filipino, we agree with Senator Binay that the news about the deaths “is alarming.”

The government had earlier warned that the use of injectable glutathione for beauty enhancement and skin treatment “is unsafe and illegal.”

In fact, repeated warnings were issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Health (DOH).

As the legislative branch of the government, Congress is duty-bound to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the people”by policy and law.”

Thus, the Senate is on the right track in looking deeper into the reported deaths linked to the unauthorized use of injectable glutathion.

This is of course in aid of legislation.
