A timely call

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has called on the public to be circumspect when posting or sharing information on social media.

Social media are interactive technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of ideas through virtual communities and networks.

The social media sites and apps include Facebook Messenger, You Tube, Twitter, Instagram. WhatsApps, and Tiktok.

The elite Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the PNP, which is civilian in nature but national in scope, issued the call last Saturday.

Since the start of the new year, PNP-ACG field operatives have nabbed 143 suspects for alleged violation of the anti-cybercrime law.

The suspects included popular vloggers, according to the PNP-ACG.

Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia, PNP-ACG director, attributed the arrest of the suspects to the meticulous investigation of the complaints.

We share the view of Hernia that the people should be responsible about posting on social media because there are legal consequences.

He added: “Think before posting, respect others’ privacy, educate yourself on online laws, seek legal advice if unsure, and continue to contribute to a positive online culture.”

Without doubt, responsible online behavior is key to maintaining a healthy digital environment.

That’s correct.
