5 NPAs yield to Cordillera cops
CORDILLERA Police Regional Office director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee on Saturday announced the surrender of five elderly members of the New People’s Army operating in Abra province following negotiations with security officials.
The five, the eldest of them 66 years old and the youngest 57, yielded in Bgy. South Poblacion in Bucay, Abra 1 p.m. Friday after a series of talks with members of the Abra Police Provincial Office and the Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion, the official said.
“They were likewise convinced by their families and their other former colleagues to return to the mainstream of the society and avail of the government’s comprehensive livelihood program for rebel returnees,” said Lee.
The official said two homemade 12-gauge shotguns with several live ammunition were turned over by two of the surrenderers to the local police.
All five are now undergoing documentation and custodial debriefing needed for the processing of their amnesty papers, said Lee.
