TEN persons were rescued when fire struck an office building along Edsa in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.

A report from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) showed that, at around 10:39 am the first alarm was raised at the 50-story SM Mega Tower, near SM Mega mall.

Several pictures posted on social media showed that people were trapped on the higher floors of the building with some of them breaking glass windows for ventilation.

A separate report from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) showed ten persons from a construction company were rescued and sustained minor injuries. They were brought to a hospital for treatment.

According to Mandaluyong -BFP, Fire Supt. Alberto de Baguio, the building that was hit by fire is an office building inside the SM Mega Tower.

He said the fire engulfed the foam where the airconditioner was attached.

The blaze started on the 15th floor of the building and has reached the 25th floor as of press time.

The fire marshal said they encountered difficulty in containing the fire because the area was so dark.
