THE chief of police of Biñan, Laguna over the weekend urged at least seven more persons of interest in the alleged hazing death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig to surrender and shed light into their alleged participation in the incident.

“Our appeal is for them to come out before we file the case. If we file the case and include their names, they will be implicated in this case, and they may be issued a warrant of arrest later on. It will be more difficult for them to explain it to the court. As the investigation is ongoing and not all have been filed yet, it would be better for them to appear,” Binan City Police Station (CPS) chief, Lt. Col. Virgilio M. Jopia, said in a chance interview at the Department of Justice (DOJ) last Saturday.

On Saturday, police presented Daniel Perry, also known as “Sting,” for inquest before the DOJ for his alleged role as the “master initiator” during Salilig’s hazing.

Perry is facing charges for violating the Anti-Hazing Act, Republic Act No. 8049, as amended by RA 11053.

Last Thursday, Perry surrendered to Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla. According to the police, Perry was present from the start of the hazing until Salilig’s body was buried in Imus, Cavite.

On February 18, Salilig was reported missing, and family and friends used social media to raise awareness about his disappearance.

He was last seen wearing a red hoodie at a bus terminal in Manila before he vanished.

A witness stated that Salilig was hit at least 70 times with a wooden paddle.

Salilig’s body was found in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite, more than a week after he was last seen alive.

An autopsy revealed that Salilig suffered severe blunt force trauma to his lower extremities.
