CALOOCAN City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said that 56 street dwellers and Children-at-Risk (CAR) in various barangays including 81, 86, 94,95, 135 and 136 were rescued during the city government’s reach-out operations recently.

The rescued street dwellers and children were gathered at a holding center in Barangay 83 where they were given a medical check-up, food, bath, and assessment by the City Social Welfare Development Department (CSWDD).

Mayor Along earlier said that the city government is always ready to respond to the needs of its people, and that the city has enough facilities to cater and care for the homeless, abused or those neglected by their families. He likewise expressed his intention to rescue more individuals to ensure their safety.

“Palagi pong handa ang ating Pamahalaang Lungsod na tugunan ang pangangailangan ng ating mga mamamayan, kaya naman pagdating sa mga kababayan nating nasa lansangan at wala ng pamilyang uuwian, sinisikap po nating maglaan ng maayos na pasilidad.” the Mayor said.

According to CSWDD Action Officer Mr. Roberto Quizon, after giving immediate attention to the needs of the rescued citizens, they have successfully returned some of them to their families, especially the minors; while others were turned-over to their respective cities including Manila, Malabon, and Bulacan.

The local chief executive expressed his gratitude to social workers of CSWDD for their compassion, especially to those who need it most.
