32 fall for playing ‘sakla’ in Sto. Tomas

CAMP GEN. MIGUEL MALVAR, Batangas – Joint police forces arrested 32 individuals for illegal gambling or “sakla” card game in Barangay Santa Maria, Santo Tomas City, Batangas, on Tuesday.

A report to Batangas Police Director Pedro D. Soliba by the Sto. Tomas City Police Station (CPS) chief Col. John Eric B. Antonio said the 32 suspected bettors were cornered by joint personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Unit (RID-RSOU) 4A and Santo Tomas CPS during a police operation against illegal gambling activities that resulted in their arrests.

The operating team recovered a controlled one set of playing cards (Baklay) or for “sakla” and bet money amounting to P15,786 in different denominations.

Meanwhile, in Teresa, Rizal, Barangay Poblacion Chairman Sherwin C. Santiago, together with his Kagawad Willie Francisco, personally appeared at the Teresa Municipal Police station (MPS) to turn over the rolled plastic of dried marijuana leaves weighing 250 grams and valued at P30,000 which was surrendered to them by a store owner

Based on the report, at about 6 a.m. on January 23, in Bgy. Poblacion, the said marijuana leaves were found in front of a store and were probably fallen from the unidentified individual.

Police detectives, together with the Intel operatives, investigated to determine the identity of the owner of the prohibited drugs.

The evidence was sent to Rizal Provincial Crime Laboratory for examination.
