18-year-old student dies in frat ‘hazing’

ONE of the newbie recruits, an 18-year-old student has reportedly died while undergoing the “initiation” when the victim lost his consciousness during the rites conducted by the members of the Tau Gamma Fraternity on Sunday, held in a mountainous part of Twin Falls, Bgy. San Juan, Kalayaan, Laguna.

Initial report by Kalayaan Police OIC (Officer-in-Charge) Chief PLt. Erico Bestid Jr. said the victim was identified as Reymart Madrazo, a resident of Bgy. Longos, Kalayaan town.

Madrazo was rushed to Gen. Cailles Hospital in Pakil, Laguna, who was still conscious but was pronounced “dead on arrival” by the attending physician.

The victim’s grandmother, Elizabeth Rabutazo, reported 4:50 p.m. and sought police assistance regarding her grandson, who alleged that the victim died of a hazing incident.

Before the incident, his companion said that the victim have got dizzy before he lost consciousness.

“Humingi pa daw ang biktima ng amonia subalit tuluyan ng nawalan ng malay,” a companion of Madrazo told the investigator.

A barangay official will turnover the members of the Tau Gamma Fraternity who were responsible for the “hazing” incident.

“Hindi umano nila kunsintihin ang pangyayari,” an official of Tau Gamma Fraternity said.
