Treating COVID-19

THE mushrooming number of people being afflicted with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has thrust outfront the urgent need to come up with drugs to cure the illness.

This despite the fact that millions of Filipinos, including the so-called frontliners, have been vaccinated against the dreaded disease, which has devastated the local economy.

In impoverished and graft-prone Philippines, the deadly virus has infected a total of 2,103 331 people and claimed the lives of 34,337 others in various parts of the country.

Thus, people cannot overemphasize the importance of developing drugs that can treat the highly-contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.

Note that even fully-vaccinated people in the country, notably the elderly, are still getting infected with COVID-19, but to a much lesser extent than those unvaccinated.

With still no cure for the illness, which originated from Wuhan, China, the most important thing to do is to avoid infecting other people, especially those who have other health problems.

And as decreed by government authorities, let’s wear masks, wash regularly, notably our hands, and avoid sharing dishes, cups, eating utensils and towels with anyone else.

Admittedly, however, most people who become sick with the disease can recover at home, with the symptoms lasting a few days, according to reports.

Indeed, there’s now a need to have an effective cure against the disease if we are to return to normalcy.

Kung hindi ay baka magtatagal pa itong pagsusuot natin ng maskara at face shield.
