Torre, David at Sports on Air

ASIA’s first GM Eugene Torre will be the special guest in the 60th episode of the “Sports on Air” program via Zoom.

Torre, who made history by earning his grandmaster title during the 1974 Nice Olympiad, will talk about the Filipinos’ chances in the coming Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia next month, as well as the GM Eugene Torre Cup seniors chess championships on Sunday, March 26 at the Robinsons Townville in Buhay na Tubig, Imus, Cavite.

Joining Torre in the 10:30 program are Inter-Agency Chess Group (IACG) president Engr. Resito David, who is organizing the one-day event in honor of Torre; Chief Arbiter IA/NM Elias Lao, Philippine Chess League president and Depity Arbiter Cesar Calopez and Mary Jane Castillo of Robinsons Townville.

David, Lao and Calopez will discuss the format of the tournament, which offers trophies and cash prizes to the winners, while Castillo will talk about the support of Robinsons Townville to sports development by hosting chess tournaments such as the GM Eugene Torre Cup.

Torre and David will also announce the formation of the Philippine Seniors Chess Association (PSCA).

“Sports on Air”, the weekly online sports program, is managed by Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight, Ernest Leo Hernandez of SOA, Gab Ferreras of Sports Corner, Ivan Saldajeno of Philippine News Agency, Gerard Arce of Abante, Danny Simon of Police Files and Jean Malanum of Philippine News Agency.
