Romualdez lauds teachers for delivering quality education amid COVID

TACLOBAN City – TINGOG Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support of the Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha or NYK Line of Japan to the International Maritime Organization-Alliance of Seafarers Towards Achieving’s (IMO-ASTIG) A4 For a Module Campaign project of ensuring the delivery of quality education in the country.

Romualdez, Honorary Chair for Membership of YWCA Founder’s Federation of the Philippines, Inc. (FFPI), thanked NYK Line, Japan’s biggest and oldest shipping company, for donating 1,700 reams of A4 bond papers and 10 units of Fuji printers to Leyte National High School, San Jose National High School and Greendale Residences National High School, three most densely populated schools in Leyte.

At the same time, Romualdez donated 15 brand new laptop units in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to three schools here as Tingog’s contribution to further level up the quality of education in this time of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID 2019) pandemic.

“The act of donation is indeed a remarkable gesture, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic,” Romualdez, chairperson of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children, said in her short speech during the A4 for a Module Campaign turnover held at the Leyte National High School last Friday.

Romualdez explained that the A4 For a Module Campaign project is one of the major projects of the IMO-ASTIG in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal No. 4, which is to provide quality education.

The IMO-ASTIG project is being implemented in collaboration with the Tingog-Party-list group, YWCA-FFPI, and Department of Education (DepEd).

She recalled that IMO-ASTIG and NYK Line of Japan visited Tacloban City before and provided A4 bond papers to some schools in Leyte with the support of the YWCA FFPI.

“Today (Friday), they are back with a bigger donation coming from the NYK Line – Japan’s biggest and oldest shipping company,” Romualdez said.

Together with House Majority Leader and Leyte First District Rep. Martin Romualdez, Rep. Yedda said “we express our deepest gratitude to the NYK Line, for your kindness and compassion to Tacloban City and the whole province of Leyte.”

“For the information of everyone, NYK Line was one of those who immediately provided us with help after the devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda, in November 2013,” she recalled as the nation commemorates this Monday the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda that devastated the Tacloban City and Eastern Visayas eight years ago.

TEACHERS COMMENDED

The lady House leader from Tingog also commended the teachers for their efforts to pursue the education of students despite the limitations caused by the global health crisis.

She assured them that the Tingog party-list will continue to push measures that would protect teachers’ welfare and interests.

“Lastly, to our teachers, I am aware that everyday is a challenge as you strive to deliver quality education to our students, I would like to assure you that as the Representative of Tingog Party-list, I will continue to help by pushing forward legislations that will ease your burden and working towards providing the province of Leyte and the whole of Eastern Visayas with adequate programs and services, especially for the improvement of our region’s education sector,” Rep. Yedda said.

In partnership with DICT, Romualdez led the donation of five laptop units to each of the three schools – Leyte National High School, San Jose National High School and Greendale Residences National High School – or a total of 15 units.

“Finally, as a testament of this continuous partnership, I would also like to present later Tingog Party-list’s donation of laptop units to each of the schools present here today. Let us take care of these donations so that it will continuously benefit our young people, who will be the future enablers of development for our province,” the chairperson of the House Committee on the Welfare of Children said as she expressed gratitude to DICT for also working to uplift the state of the country’s education during pandemic.
