Thousands of indigents get ‘Malasakit’ aid
SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit team provided assistance to Cauayan City, Isabela province’s locals, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to helping the Filipino people toward recovery.
The Malasakit Team conducted the initiative at Isabela State University Gymnasium, where 1,949 indigents gathered and received shirts, balls for basketball and volleyball, calendars, and sockets. Select recipients also received a pair of shoes and a mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the struggling residents received financial support from the government in partnership with Vice Governor Faustino Bojie Dy and Mayor Caesar Dy.
In a video message, Go acknowledged the difficulties of crises and assured the people that the government will keep coming up with ways and means to support Filipinos during these trying times.
Go underlined his support for any programs that would significantly benefit the poor, saying, “Mga kababayan ko, magtulungan lang po tayo. Magbayanihan po tayo at magmalasakit po tayo sa ating kapwa Pilipino. Ginagawa po lahat ng gobyerno para po malampasan natin itong krisis na ito.”
As part of Go’s commitment as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, the senator encouraged residents to visit the Malasakit Centers at Southern Isabela Medical Center in Santiago City and Gov. Faustino N. Dy Sr. Memorial Hospital in Ilagan City.
The Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 which Go principally authored and sponsored, was institutionalized by the Malasakit Centers program. These one-stop shops aim to support impoverished patients in reducing their hospital costs to the least possible amount.
Currently, 165 Malasakit Centers are operational nationwide, poised to assist with patients’ medical expenses, which provide aid to around ten million Filipinos, according to the DOH.
