Team Calambago ‘dethrones’ rival

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Team Calamba for Change or “Calambago” overthrew rivals that ruled over three decades in Calamba on May 9, 2022, local elections here.

Incumbent Vice Mayor and Mayor-elect Roseller “Ross” Rizal, Calamba City Councilor and now Calamba City Congresswoman-elect Cha Hernandez, and Vice Mayor-elect Totie Lazaro of PDP-Laban of BBM-Sara tandem defeated their respective arch-rivals, who has been in the power for 27 years in the locality.

From scions of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Ross Rizal won over Joey Chipeco, who garnered 116,775 votes to 78,325 votes of the son of Jun Chipeco.

Councilor Cha Hernandez outsmarted outgoing Mayor Timmy Chipeco via 113,130 votes to 105,729 votes for the congressional seat.

Vice Mayor-elect Totie Lazaro, son of former lady Governor Ning Ning Lazaro beat Rajay Lajara 126,445 to 100,155.

Rizal vowed that he would gradually carry out local government reform.

According to Rizal, the “winner” of their team is the entire Calambeño people because they want a “change” in the leadership of Calamba. By Dennis Abrina
