Solon: Fast-track ayuda distribution

HOUSE Deputy Minority Leader and Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate on Friday took to task Malacañang on its assurances of providing “ayuda” worth P1,000 per individual to a maximum of P4,000 per affected household in the National Capital Region (NCR) before the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starts.

Zarate asked.

“During the last ECQ in March and April, aid did not come to many families even after the last day of the lockdown. Is this a repeat of that? Malacanang should fast track the aid to families because lives are at stake here. There should be an overwhelming sense of urgency to act,” Zarate, a Davao-based lawmaker, said.

“At the same time, we put on notice the administration not to subject the distribution of aid or ayuda to another money-making scheme that reportedly attended the previous distribution of the billions-worth social amelioration program (SAP), which was awarded to a dubious company Starpay,” he said.

“We have already pointed out the numerous sources of funds that Malacañang could tap to at least give P10,000 aid per family. The Palace should act on this now and push for the immediate passing of Bayanihan 3,” Zarate ended.
