SK official jailed for shooting minor in Iloilo
AN officer of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Dumangas, Iloilo was arrested by the police for accidentally shooting a minor with his homemade shotgun last Tuesday, a Police Regional Office 6 report said yesterday.
The SK councilman who was elected to represent the youth in their community is facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and serious physical injuries.
The PRO6 headed by Brig. Gen. Sydney N. Villaflor said that an investigation conducted by the Dumangas Municipal Police Station showed that the accused identified only as “Radnie” took a homemade shotgun in his room to clean the weapon around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspect is a resident of Barangay Paloc Bigque in Dumangas.
However, the weapon went off shortly after the SK official reportedly accidentally dropped it on the floor.
Shrapnel hit the head of the young victim who was then playing with his toy gun.
The accused fled the scene but was arrested by the local police in a hot pursuit operation.
Officers also recovered a piece of cloth used by the suspect to clean the crime scene.
