THE move of the Department of Tourism (DOT) to do its part to help hotels uplift the standards of the Philippine hospitality industry is a welcome development.

Late last year, DOT Secretary Christina Frasco said the government will double efforts to support human capital development through upskilling and programs such as the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence.

Frasco said the DOT has so far trained 100,000 Filipino workers under the initiative, “ensuring continued upliftment of quality tourism services” for domestic and foreign tourists.

Parallel with this state initiative are the efforts of the Philippine hotel industry, key members of which have been relentless in raising the quality of their services to both local and foreign tourists.

In Manila alone, a hotel has been ramping up its drive to provide the best food and wine experience for customers.

One can indulge in an extraordinary evening touring Italy at Sheraton Manila Bay’s Italian Wine Dinner Buffet and Wine Tasting.

Partnering with Sommelier Selection, a distinguished importer and distributor of estate wines in the Philippines since 2002, the hotel promises a journey through Italy’s finest flavors.

This exclusive event at Manila Bay Kitchen offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich flavors of Italian cuisine paired perfectly with a selection of exquisite wines.

Sheraton Manila Bay starts this gastronomic journey in Southern Italy featuring Liboll Spumante and Cantine San Marzano before going to Abruzzo, Marche, Sicily, and Fruili Italy to experience a selection of red and white wines from Brunori Azienda and Azienda Agricola Occhipinti.

A final trip can be made in Puglia to enjoy the Edda Lei Bianco where one can end the night of discovering a wide array of dishes where every bite can transported him to the heart of Italy’s vibrant culinary scene.

Whether one is a wine enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable evening of indulgence, this event is not to be missed. The hotel is inviting everybody to try an unforgettable night celebrating the art of Italian winemaking and culinary mastery.

Meanwhile, as hotels continue to evolve how they do business amid rapidly changing guest behaviors, preferences and expectations, hoteliers are incessantly faced with figuring out how to put guest satisfaction first while juggling operational challenges, budget and labor shortages, Hotels Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA)chair Margarita Munsayac said.

With guest experience at the heart of hospitality, going beyond the bottom line develops a mindset of consistent level of excellence that underscores a commitment of not merely meeting guest expectations but exceeding them, and of cultivating long-lasting, meaningful relationships with guests who return time and again.
