BIGATIN ang Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival ngayong taon hindi lang in terms of finalist entries kundi maging sa panel ng jury.

Sa katatapos na press presentation ng pumasok na anim na full-length film directors at 25 short film student directors na tatanggap ng film grants, sinabi ng festival director na si Chris Cahilig na magiging parte ng panel of jurors ang isang kilalang pangalan mula sa isang malaking international film festival.

“May jury. We’re bringing in an international jury. Hindi pa namin pwedeng sabihin but somebody from a big international film festival is part of the jury,” ani Chris.

Ang finished full-length at short films ay magkakaroon ng premiere screenings sa Gateway Cinemas sa Cubao mula March 15 hanggang 17. Susundan ito ng potential regional screenings at ang short films ay mapapanood din sa official social media channels ng Puregold sa YouTube at TikTok.

Para kay Chris, perfect ang timing ng Puregold CinePanalo filmfest dahil maaari pang umanong makasali ang mga ito sa iba’t ibang international filmfests gaya ng prestihiyosong Cannes International Film Festival.

Mula sa daan-daang aplikante, 31 lang ang pumasa sa CinePanalo filmfest. Dalawa sa mga pumasok sa full-length category ay sina Kurt Soberano, Under the Piaya Moon; Eugene Torres, One Day League: Dead Mother, Dead All, na umani ng titulong “Producer’s Choice.”

Kabilang din dito ang entries nina Sigrid Bernardo, Pushcart Tales; Raynier Brizuela, Boys at the Back; Joel Ferrer, Road to Happy; at Carlo Obispo, A Lab Story.

Ang listahan naman ng new student directors ay kinabibilangan nina Jenievive Adame, Smokey Journey (STI College Cubao); Ma. Rafaela Mae Abucejo, Saan Ako Pinaglihi? (Polytechnic University of the Philippines); Alexa Moneii Agaloos, Ka Benjie (Polytechnic University of the Philippines); Kent Michael Cadungog, Text FIND DAD and Send to 2366 (University of the Philippines); John Pistol Carmen Repeater si Peter (Bicol University); Chrisha Eseo Cataag, Hallway Scholar (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo); Patricia Dalluay, Lola, Lola, Paano ba ‘Yan? (Polytechnic University of the Philippines); Dizelle Masilungan, Kung Nag-aatubili (University of Santo Tomas) at marami pang iba.

Tumanggap ang anim na full-length film directors ng film grant worth P2.5M each habang ang 25 short film student directors naman ay binigyan ng tig-P100,000.

Bukod sa film grants, ang lahat ng finalists ay meron ding complimentary color grading mula sa Optima Digital at essential groceries mula naman sa Puregold.

Ang goal ng Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival ay makapagbigay ng platform para sa mga kilala at baguhang filmmakers na magtatahi ng “Kuwentong Panalo.”

Ang selection committee na pumili sa 31 finalists ay binubuo nina film/TV director Jeffrey Jeturian, film critic Tito Valiente, award-winning filmmaker Victor Villanueva, Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, Lyle Gonzales ng Republic Creative at PCP festival director na si Chris.

Ayon kay Chris, hindi nila ni-require ang filmmakers na kumuha ng mga sikat na artista although may movie rito ang mga tulad nina Joel Torre, Shamaine at Nonie Buencamino, pati na ang isang emerging GMA Sparkle artist.

“We required them to cast the best actors. Though makakatulong din ang big names, eventually, ‘pag mas malaki na siguro ang budget. The message is very critical kasi mas mainstream ‘yung message namin kaya sana mas mainstream din ‘yung approach and everything. Form versus celebrity factor or ‘yung execution na mas commercial, mas gusto namin, kasi mas maganda talaga ‘yung film,” paliwanag pa niya.
